Book an Educational Screening

+ 1. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HOST A SCREENING?

By hosting a screening, you are joining a worldwide network of organizations, community leaders, conference directors, union organizers, and engaged advocates who believe that #ImmigrantsBuildAmerica!

A film screening is a powerful tool for activating communities. Some hosts use their event to engage their members, some use it to empower workers, and others use it to activate volunteer efforts. Unlike passively watching a movie alone at home, your film screening is an opportunity to create an experience for your community. Hosts have organized receptions before and after their event, and had a panel post-screening discussion.

+ 2. WHAT DOES HOSTING A SCREENING ENTAIL?

You will need a date, a venue, a way to show the film (like a computer and projector or television) and a means to get the word out. You can hold a public or private screening at a conference or meeting that is already planned, or create a new event. While theaters are always an option, most hosts find community spaces that can be donated for screenings (like libraries, union halls, or offices).

The film - The Building the American Dream feature-length documentary on a disc.

A license to screen the film, for a one-time, non-broadcast, public or private exhibition.

Share your event in the film's newsletter and social media platforms

Ask that you create a Facebook event for your screening and add the film as a co-host, so it can show up on our Facebook page

+ 5. IS THERE A FEE?

Yes, there is a fee depending on the size of your group. The fee starts at $200. See the film’s Tugg page (Option #1 above for more details on fees). Screening hosts sometimes choose to offset costs by partnering with local organizations to sponsor and co-host their event.

+ 6. WHERE CAN I HOST MY community screening?

You can host your event at an office, conference, union hall, library, or community space. The venue is entirely up to you!

+ 7. WHAT TECHNOLOGY DO I NEED TO HOST AN EVENT?

The only technology you need to host your event is a screen to show the film (which can be a project with a computer, or TV and disc player), speakers to hear the audio, and the disc.

+ 8. ARE THERE ANY LIMITATIONS?

The film cannot be used to support specific candidates or political parties, or to lobby for a particular issue.

All community screenings must be free and open to the public.

+ 9. HOW LONG IS THE FILM?

The film is 73 minutes long. Many groups appreciate having time afterwards for a discussion.

+ 10. WHAT LANGUAGE IS THE FILM?

Bilingual—Spanish and English. The disc has simultaneous subtitles, so when someone speaks in English there are Spanish subtitles and when some speaks in Spanish there are English subtitles.
